She also spent a great portion of the book creating parallels between this fantastical world and Black history as well as the Black experience. The characters are mostly fun, but there is no way that a twelve-year-old can have so much world knowledge as that, or be so eloquent - their vocabulary is much too big. There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors.

She is a former teen rapper whose greatest accomplishment was an article about her in Right-On Magazine with a picture included. Exploding with heart, humor, and all things Black Girl Magic, Nic Blake and the Remarkables is a triumph of friendship and Black Southern folklore and history. Others, not so much — like not being trusted to learn magic because you might use it to take revenge on an annoying neighbour. As a white, UK-based reader, I liked both the fantasy plot and the weaving into it of important topics. When her godfather gives her a pen that she can send messages to whoever she thinks of she decides to contact her mother, trouble is Nic’s father hasn’t been completely honest with her about why it is just them and her actions change the course of her life forever. The Manifestor Prophecy follows Nic Blake, the story's main character and narrator, a Remarkable in an Unremarkable world. Those outside of America may find references go over their head but don't lose anything of the plot if so. It can be challenging to satiate the appetites of readers who devour beloved middle grade fantasy series.

This book is no-holds-barred, fly by the seat of your pants (and other methods) trip to the corner of Thrill Street and Wonder Avenue.Soon, Nic, JP and a new friend find themselves pursued by the Guardians, the Manifestor police, for something they didn’t do, while Nic’s dad is thrown in jail. Dus toen ik de flaptekst van het nieuwste, vertaalde, boek van Angie Thomas las, dacht ik: dit boek móét ik lezen! They welcome you in and offer you a safe place to go when you want to disappear from the world for a bit, and this is exactly what this book did. The story is adventurous, funny, and sometimes stressful - the kids find themselves in many nail-biting situations on their quest. Mae ei ffrind gorau anhynod JP yn byw drws nesaf – ond mae e yn hynod oherwydd ei frwdfrydedd dros lyfrau ffantasi TJ Retro a thros gadw cwmni i Nic.
