I am really pleased to see God’s people using their skills and gifts to be missional to their culture. was just an exaggeration for me, but just reading the first chapters of the manga made me think that I was wrong. While seeing the ways that the artists chose to portray the Gospels in the manga format were often rewarding--and sometimes amusing--one of my favorite things about Manga Messiah was when the story emphasized subtle connections that I had never really thought about.

It will be appreciated by young and old alike as it brings to life these people and the events they lived through, a real help if you're starting out or struggling with reading them in the Bible.

My only complaint would be that the book is “flipped” (or is it “not flipped”…) Traditionally, manga, even translated to English, is read right to left. Berlet is quoting as stating that Manga Messiah is "A colorful comic training manual for motivating young leaders of the next pogrom against Jews.

Set in a Manga version of our Gospel books, and materializes those events that takes place beyond we can see.The whole gamut of His character and emotions are skillfully portrayed: his miraculous power, mercy, grace, holiness, love, anger, sadness, humility. Features: Gives a unique presentation of the Gospel accounts Includes a map of Galilee, Samaria, and Judea Includes illustrated character profiles of key Bible people Features an illustrated page on the twelve apostles A great way to introduce anyone to the Bible Readers will find this edgy rendition of the Gospel accounts both compelling and highly engaging. The sixth and the final book from the series, Manga Majesty (2019) concludes the story of apostle John's revelation in the island of Patmos and the revelations that mark the end of days. The trio felt the manga contained extreme anti-Semitic views and was pushing for an idea of "objectifying Jews as non human".

Dust Jackets are not guaranteed and when still present, they will have various degrees of tear and damage. It's a pretty accurate and faithful account of the combined narrative of the four Gospels which record for us the coming of and the mission of Jesus. With countless restrictions from where I come from, I'm really surprised that this book has managed to penetrate into our local Christian community. I don’t do this enough, but I strongly congratulate the Jesuits who thought of this and put it together! The reason I say that is because Christians often try to do something for God’s glory, yet the final product isn’t professional. In all honesty, this is one of the best rendition Graphic-Manga-Novel series that depicts the life of Jesus apart from "The Picture Bible" that I once grew up with. Each language edition is reviewed by members of regional bible societies before publication, to ensure accurate translation. My oldest son has a fascination with Japanese style art, and there just are simply not very many options out there that I am comfortable with him viewing.

While it isn’t a word-for-word adaptation of the account in the Gospels, it does follow them very closely and gives a believable depiction of what the Gospel account would look like drawn in the Japanese style. Using the manga comic format, this book portrays the life of Jesus from the prophecies that foretold His birth to His ascension into heaven. Manga Messengers (2011) addresses events starting with the reign of King Solomon and takes stories from several of the major and minor prophets, and the Book of Esther and concludes with anticipation of a messiah. As a Roman Catholic Seminarian I found this to be a great tool to explain the Bible to the younger generation and those who had difficulty grasping certain aspects of it!When he first announced his vision, it was met with some derision, with other Christians feeling the books would be insulting to the gospel. The cutting edge genuine manga artwork and fast-paced, compelling storytelling make this rendition of the gospels a great outreach tool for a segment of culture that isn't always easy to reach. This depiction uses genuine Japanese manga style, unlike other Christian “manga” books in the marketplace.
