This is to say nothing of the individuals who built Bullock’s wire-rig harness for her sequences inside the International Space Station, which was a 12-wire rig that had to be molded to fit her body exactly, with three wires attached to computer controlled servomotors. Furthermore, Gravity is one of a small handful of films to be given the Dolby Atmos treatment for theaters and rumor has it the Atmos soundtrack is even more amazing than what I heard at my local IMAX theater. Kowalksi recounts jovial moments from his life to ground control but there is little depth to suggest repression.

In fact, an early script he had sent to producer David Heyman was entitled Gravity: A Space Adventure in 3D. Final Verdict: A score like 35/35 isn’t merely us suggesting that you should go see Gravity in 3D, but that you absolutely must see it in 3D. Stone's ability to pilot certain vehicles, how important parachutes and certain landing mechanisms will be, how Stone thinks to use a fire extinguisher 'Wall-E' style, the recurring usage of oxygen running out. Gravity deserves to be seen and as you've undoubtedly heard from others, it deserves to be seen on the biggest screen you can find. The best part of the cinematography though is the intricate long takes that draw you in right from the opening sequence, with a camera that feels like it’s floating and spinning in zero gravity along with the astronauts.D. James' The Children of Men, deployed long takes to pull audiences into a horrific, conflict-riven depiction of a dystopian Britain. Gravity is a nuts-n-bolts story of survival, little more; although small details about past tragedies and present struggles in Stone's life render every inch of her journey more meaningful than the last. Every five or ten years, a film comes along to push the envelope of what is possible in movie making, establishing the next benchmark in cinema. This is a genuinely brilliant way to use 3D to heighten a moment of tension in the film in an organic way.

Even though I had issues which took me out of the movie – it will still be on my best films of the year list. There’s never a sense that she’s trying too hard to sell the believability of a scene, and she definitely made me nearly want to cry at one point (that rarely happens for me).Taking off your glasses in the middle of a 3D movie is a way to see all of the layers of depth that the stereoscopic effect is using, and with Gravity the results of the test are impressive. I’m sure I’ve still got a couple of 3D blu rays kicking about and the player is gathering dust in a cupboard. No banding, no macroblocking, no damage or dirt, no crush, no edge enhancement, no noise in darker moments. Although as this feature wasn’t included on the earlier US disc, its omission didn’t come as much of a surprise. Cuaron's powerful use of sound - or lack thereof - coupled with an impassioned score, only heightens the near-unbearable tension, whilst acclaimed cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki provides us with some stunning images, both of the earth from space, and of hardware disintegrating into a million tiny Lego-like pieces.
