Perfect solution would be to assume a default position for rear PiP so no question is asked at power up, and add the ability to change the default PiP position to the menu system (left/right/never). The 512GW is one of the first dash cams I’ve seen that gives serious consideration to the speed at which it can be fitted and removed in your car. You do get an additional mini-USB for attaching a rear camera, although Nextbase currently doesn’t offer such a device in its range. In daylight, you should be able to make out number plates and signs with no problems, unless they’re simply too far away. Nextbase 512GW dashcam (model number NBDVR512GW) is compatible with microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC flash memory cards up to 128GB in size.

This could be a useful feature if you need to take some shots of damage at the scene of an accident, although the images aren’t very high resolution. Plus it has the benefit of a polarising filter and six-layer glass lens for reduced glare and sharper video. At the top resolution, video is captured at 27Mbits/sec, so a 16GB memory card will be enough for 77 minutes of footage before the recoding loops to replace the oldest files with new ones. The NEXTBASE Video Recording 3 inch Dash Cam is a premium quality camera with 1440p quality and full night vision capabilities. In reply to your original question Yousuf - yes I am happy to own 512GW now - it works impressively well and does all I want - just a few rough edges to smooth out and these will be accomplished by software (firmware) updates which are easy to apply.Reports suggest that criminals are targeting fleet vehicles so the need for an independent witness is at its most important. Please check that your Camviewer app is on the latest version available and that your phone has Wi-Fi turned on. Other cables we’ve seen have been significantly thinner, and it’s hard to conclude Nextbase chose this because if offered better quality.

Again, decent enough quality for Full HD, but it’s a shame they don’t use the full resolution at which the 512GW is capable of shooting in video mode. You will need a separate power supply and SD card as it will not connect to your 512GW, but can be used as a Camera facing rearwards. In conclusion, the Nextbase 512GW is a feature-rich dashcam that provides high-quality recordings in Quad HD resolution. I seem to remember being told if you want some other position, just unplug and plug back in the rear camera leaving the main unit powered (don't quote me). This is a great product fairly simple to fit all you have to do is rout the cable from the front camera to the rear window. The disadvantage is that it doesn’t allow for quite as much movement and so the angle shown in the video and images below is the lowest it’s possible to tilt the lens. HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE (HDR) AND WIDE DYNAMIC RANGE (WDR): HDR improves contrast and maintains clarity for recordings.

It’s a quick-release system that holds the camera in place with magnets, and also supplies power so you don’t have to unplug a USB cable if you prefer to remove your dash cam from view when you park. Having a dash cam in your car now makes more sense than ever, with discounts on your insurance and being able to prove an accident wasn’t your fault. But with the GPS capability, Wi-Fi and the facility to see video alongside the map location via Nextbase’s software, it will do the job well as a personal automotive surveillance device. The healthy data rate and Full HD resolution provide footage that’s faithful in colour and relatively devoid of artefacts. You’ll get the best quality if you set the circular polariser to minimise reflections of your dashboard, but its effectiveness will depend on the angle of the sun – you can’t continually rotate the filter as you drive of course. That’s likely because the 512GW’s processor can’t handle the front camera at the highest quality plus the rear camera’s feed. At that point we praised it for offering great quality video and the possibility of adding a rear camera in the future. I just feel this would have been better if it fed into the power feed on the windscreen mount (for those who remove their dashcam when it's on your driveway).
