That experience will no doubt be bittersweet, because my BATMAN comics were not well-received by a significant number of fans. This story took a look at a crime in which the victim was someone Batman knew and how his emotions blinded him. Ainda assim, a qualidade deste livro é inconsistente de issue para issue, alguns são bastante bons, outros nem tanto, sendo um dos issues, para além de mau, completamente desnecessário para a coleção. His confrontation of Bruce was interesting, but not strong enough or expected enough to actually have an impact.

The result is a jumble of small arcs and one-offs that aren’t brought together for any thematic purpose. A woman Bruce Wayne meets becomes his next victim, which sparks his drive to find and take down the man. The last three stories are where the creative team of Jim Starlin and Jim Aparo take over and it’s clear why they were given the reigns. Though many know how he died with the story Death in the Family being in print for many years, the stories of how he became so unpopular that fans voted him to his death are less widely read.I'm talking like Batman taking a street hood kid under his wing and thinking he can tame the young guy. In some respects, Second Chances forms the first of a "Replacement Robin" trilogy that continues in Batman: Death In The Family and Batman: A Lonely Place of Dying. Like Collins’ other work, it doesn’t tonally match what Starlin was doing and feels more like the Silver Age. The issues are interrupted by Year One which makes things a bit funny in regard to Jason’s timeline. The story jumps back to when Bats and a street-wise Jason first meet, as the kid was tryna steal the Batmobile’s tires!

The collection ends on a bizarre note with a story written by Max Allan Collins for a Batman annual. When Marvel Comics wished to use the name of Captain Marvel for a new, different character,[citation needed] Starlin was given the rare opportunity to produce a one-shot story in which to kill off a main character. Once I learned about the editorial and artist difficulties on the rest of your run from you years ago, it helped me appreciate them in that there really ARE good stories in there trying to get out from under all those problems. With Second Chances we get to see how Jason Todd was revamped for the Post-Crisis era Batman and how the second Robin was written in a way that could only end one way.Discover the origin of one of comics’ most controversial characters in BATMAN: SECOND CHANCES-collecting the earliest adventures of Jason Todd, the second Robin, from the minds of legendary creators Max Allan Collins, Jim Starlin, Jim Aparo, Dave Cockrum, Denys Cowan, Norm Breyfogle, Jo Duffy and more! He’s frustrated that Batman adopted another partner so quickly and planted the seeds that Nightwing is a version of Batman who worked through his trauma and came out better on the other side. There was a lot of good stuff back then, including the precursor to the Frank Miller "dark" reboot, prefigured in much of this earlier material.
