Kim Stone fast realises she’s on the hunt for a twisted individual whose killing spree spans decades. She might not be able to show it or say it, but you know that she cares, and she has a team that respects her all the more for it.

As usual the author steered me in the wrong direction numerous times, making me think I had an idea what was going on only to pull the rug from under my feet time after time. The story deals with a difficult subject and there is also graphic violence, so not for the faint hearted, but once I started I didn't want to stop listening until the end. All I can say is that this crime novel, “Silent Scream” by Angela Marsons was amazing, and I was very surprised to see that this was her debut novel. My only regret is that I didn't read it sooner, because believe me folks, this is one hell of a book that will you gobsmacked.

There is lots of action, we open in 2004 with five adults around a grave, burying an innocent, binding them all together with a horrific secret. Le “confessioni” dell’assassino sembrano buttate lì giusto per confermare che Kim ci azzecca sempre (in altre parole, l’autrice fornisce tutti i pezzi del puzzle e li mette pure insieme. As each victim is assessed, Stone’s team finds one thing in common; they had been employed at a children’s home now empty and abandoned. I like that the mystery manages to combine the current plot while providing a way for us to learn about Kim’s backstory.A headmistress is found brutally strangled, the first in a spate of gruesome murders which shock the Black Country. The Chapters are short, which makes it easy reading and easy to stop and start with (perfect for me with a toddler in the house! stars out of 5 plus a glass of wine (to steady my nerves, after reading such a heart-pounding crime thriller). Then human remains are discovered buried in the grounds of a former children’s home, threatening to bring to light a legacy of disturbing secrets.

I was hooked from the first page and was guided expertly through a taut plot full of suspense with characters that jumped off the page and into my living room. I noticed this series was very popular on Goodreads, so naturally, I had to see why everyone was so keen on it… well now I know!Kim Stone – An acerbic, brusque, and driven young woman who works as a Detective Inspector for the West Midlands Police. Many crime novels are a bit same-same if you know what I mean, it's kind of hard to add elements that make it stand out from the rest on the shelves. An absolutely gripping, darkly compelling, and nail-bitingly tense mystery thriller that will keep you racing through the pages long into the night. I have not been so impressed by a debut novel in a long time , and I'm actually now itching for more from D. I was totally invested in the life and story of main character Lottie There is no-one I’d rather spend my bank holiday with than the fabulous KL Slater.

So excited to share the prologue of Dying Truth - book 8 in the Kim Stone series which is going on to Netgalley very, very soon! She is strong, focused, completely lacking in social skills and yet unwilling to be swayed from her mission of solving the case and moving on. She is disconnected from her emotions and avoids complicated relationships or opening up to people, including her only ‘friend’ DS Bryant.

Or perhaps, maybe it is just coincidence that my book choices have contained these types of characters. This affects Stone badly because she was in the Care system as a child and empathasises with the fate of the victims. This is much more than just another crime novel, it's tackles issues that can really make you feel very uncomfortable.
